I quite agree with the meme-ers to start with Wild Strawberries and Smiles of a Summer Night, especially the latter. It's not gloomy at all and might fit your life better. :-) Though even The Seventh Seal has some nice comedy moments (albeit usual in the cynical one-liners of the squire).
