I cannot imagine any way in which the laws proposed by the new Housing Minister Caroline Flint here could possibly be enforced. What they are is an insult to those of us who live in social housing, a stigmatization of the unemployed as workshy and a slap in the face to the Labour base in the interests of appealing to readers of the Daily Mail. The idea that a right to a roof over your head can possibly be contingent on anything except need is an affront to human dignity - we are getting to a point where I can really imagine a Labour minister proposing that the unemployed not be allowed to breed. (The Eugenics Society seriously proposed this in the 1930s.)

Typical New Labour nonsense - offensive, stupid and not even calculated to fool the right-wing schmucks it is meant to pitch to. When are these people going to realize that the reason why they are going to lose the next General Election to the Tories, who will be worse, is that they have comprehensively trashed everything the party is supposed to stand for.

And that, BTW, is why I left back at the time of the abolition of Clause 4. I could say the process underway whereby there would be no point in my staying. I take [livejournal.com profile] calimac's point that by leaving I was giving Blair what he wanted, but there is a point past which staying is to risk becoming physically ill with nausea.
