Lots of people knew Charlie Brown far better than I did - what always amazed me about him was the way that he held, in his head, the names and faces and basic information about just about everyone in the sf field. He knew who I was; he knew who everybody was; he was unfailingly polite in his grumpy way and always interested in what people were up to.

He will, like most of our dead, be sorely missed.
