We were all young and never thought to die
And some of us are gone, the rest are old
We laughed so much, who now are forced to cry
In darkened rooms we made love on the sly
Are now imprisoned by the lies we told
We were all young and never thought to die
No pleasures that we were afraid to try
No shiny things that we could not be sold
We laughed so much, who now are forced to cry
All of our hopes turned out to be a lie
or worse were true, and were betrayed for gold
We were all young and never thought to die
Our lives are laid waste; we are forced to sigh
and huddle with each other in the cold
We laughed so much, who now are forced to cry
The sins were ours. No need to question why
We're punished. And no hope we'll be consoled.
