If you haven't, you might find Julia Sweeney's Letting Go Of God? It's her stand-up show which is basically about her attempt to get closer to God, which eventually led to her being atheist.
It's funny and unusual for that kind of thing, not least because she has at the start a very positive connection with her faith, she grows up with her religion giving her a lot of good things, genuinely finding comfort and happiness in it, and it's her desire to actually get closer to it that leads her to want to learn more about it.
