I deleted the post I put up earlier, to which some people have linked, because the site I linked to was a clever spoof rather than a genuine bizarre story.

Basically, it claimed that a Christian kidney donor had got upset when the woman with her kidney converted to paganism.

I got quite snippy and moral, and feel an idiot not to have realized it was a spoof. And too prepared to believe evil of people.

The problem is that tomorrow, likely enough, there'll be an even crazier story, and it'll actually be true. I no longer blame anyone for falling for spoof stories.

There's a lot of evil out there to believe. This story, for example, in which rape really isn't that bad because the rapist was geeky and a foreigner. A quick note ought to clear up the whole problem in that case.

It's not that unlikely. People have died leaving organs but tried to stipulate that they go only to patients of the same race. Hospitals refuse them, though at least once I think they've had the stipulation overturned incourt.

Aw! It fooled me, too. Shame to lose such a truly bizarre story, but good that it's not true.

Oh, I missed that - would have liked to have seen you venting your spleen (and yes, that is a horrid expression).

it was a very fine satire - and I posted it on my own lj. When I read it I could believe it - and that made it both very sad and extremely funny. The world needs satire like this to remind us of how foolish we humans can be.

But in a world where US states can refuse to let atheists run for office, it's no wonder that real life and satire are increasingly difficult to tell apart. (see [personal profile] communicator for more details.

I wish we had an opt-out donor scheme instead of an opt-in.
