I don't quite know why I am not posting and did not even get it together to wish everyone a Happy Christmas. Just put it down to vague seasonal malaise.

Writing is coming in little bursts - I want to get Atlantis finished by the end of the year, but I also doon't want to mess it up. Those who get bits read to you may expect anguished calls over the next few days so that I can check the rhythm of the prose - and you may ring and volunteer, the rest of you.

I am still waiting for editorial notes on Superheroes!, which is slightly worrying.

The thing that has bugged me about the death of Gerald Ford is that the 'Can't walk and chew gum at the same time' line seems to have become canonical, whereas 'Can't fart and chew gum at the same time' sounds more like the sort of thing LBJ would have said. And his other Ford remark, the one about the boot, seems to have dropped off the radar altogether.

I thought the one that was canonical was the one about "Gerry's played football without a helmet one time too many"

Boot? Elucidate for us young whippersnappers?

All I can think of is the jest from Aristophanes about a certain politician who 'crossed the floor' more than once being like an old boot, because he would fit equally well on either foot.

The phrase was 'so dumb he can't empty a boot full of piss with instructions on the heel'.

LBJ said so many wonderful things and most of them were so very coarse.

Must admit I couldn't even remember the chew gum quote - I knew he was clumsy but couldn't remember another damn thing about him.

Apologies, by the way - I think I nicked some of the angst for my BtVS / Dr. Who crossover from your post-Doomsday Rose fic a while back. Wasn't intentional, I suspect that any post-Doomsday Rose fic is likely to have similar overtones.

The most interesting obit on Ford I've read thus far is from [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks, here (http://bradhicks.livejournal.com/299062.html).
