Doris Lessing has won the Nobel Prize for literature - I may have to go talk to the BBC World Service about this later.

Later - the Beeb got Lessing herself and stood me down - oh well, means I can get work done.

The UK GoH for the '87 Worldcon is far more likely to mention skiffy than, say, Margaret "squids in space" Attwood.

Indeed, but in my experience the BBC is the probably the last major redoubt of 'the canon as it was in the 50s' so suggestions that the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature was secretly a skiffy writer would be unlikely to go down well.
