I was a bit irritated by SFX's review - they really do not like posh clever people on their fanboy turf - but I do rather well out of Paul Gravett in today's Independent here.

In other matters, stopping taking statins does seem to have reduced the amount of muscular pain, stopped me being deathly tired in the evenings and given me at least some access to my brain. My typing has got faster, even. I managed some work on the novel for the first time since I got back from the US.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you. Or, if you don't want to post it, but want a memory from me, say so at the end of your comment and I'll reply with one. But consider posting. It's fun to see what comes up. Just got back from the first night of Transfabulous and an amazing piece by Ignacio Riveira called Dancer after which I accosted him and spoke thus: 'oh so going to a place where you know nobody except the person you are supposed to be staying with, and who lets you down, so that you have to get a room and run out of money and end up doing sex work to survive, and coming to many insights about who you are - isn't just my story then?'

I am aware of how many times I discover that I live a set of standard narratives and am not, in fact, the special snowflake I must deep down think I am. It's a flaw I must deal with.
