The roll continues, and seems to demonstrate that I have a far nastier imagination than I ever, well, imagined. I hate magic almost as much as Mike Harrison does, something I hadn't quite realized before.

Happy birthday
jasonelvis, a truly brilliant chap whose putting together of Transfabulous alongside Serge has changed my life immeasurably for the better.

I took about half an hour off writing to watch some of Bonekickers, a loopily bad show about archaeology that perpetually teeters on the brink of conscious fantasy, (as opposed to weird stuff that they just made up like Roman napalm hand-grenades - and OK, yes, Greek fire, but they never weaponized it for the individual soldier). This is a team of professionals that mak Torchwood look like MI5 in Spooks, compared to whom the team in Primaeval are a crack bunch. And they say things like 'love is at forty degrees - you can't make it straight'. Gahhh! It is a show that hurts the brain.

Date: 2008-07-27 11:22 pm (UTC)To quote myself:
Aurora's flesh was withering, and not from the salt, but from being drawn ever thinner over whatever inner structure she still possessed. The cries peaked and fell away in quiet fulfilment, to be drowned progressively by another noise. Something was smacking its gums together so hard it was like leather slapping against leather, was slurping like the worst and most unwelcome kiss in the world.
'Could this get more disgusting?' Elodie said.
'Sweetie,' Emma said. 'You're a vampire. Glass houses and all that.'
Elodie looked hurt.
'Now you're being horrid.' she said.
Ruby looked at them both with mild distaste.
'Aurora used to be - well, not my friend, obviously - but someone I knew and vaguely admired,' she said. 'Is there nothing we can do for her?'
Emma shook her head.
'By the time people do this sort of thing to themselves,' she said, 'they're gone. They just think that what they want is more important than anyone else, more important than who they are. People say magic is a technology of will and it's true. That doesn't make it a good thing.'
'She was in so much pain,' Ruby said.
'She's in worse pain now,' Emma said. 'And she killed people to get there.'

Date: 2008-07-28 01:18 pm (UTC)Well I think CS Lewis would have agreed dunno about Charles Williams- he haD friends who were part of the Golden Dawn and dabbled himself. Its a fallen Philosophy of Life deeply Catholic in my view (an exentential KNOW YOUR PLACE) & dificult to reconsile with other views of yours which seem extremely Whiggish.
Dubious whether we can discuss this fruitfully as you know a lot more about this than I do & you could drown me with facts. Would like to hear you debate this with an equal such as Alan Moore (if both of you could keep your tempers which is unlikely).
Its not a practical issue with me the skepticasl side of me makes it unlikely that I will DO anything along these lines other than read an occational book by Alystair Crowly and daydream a bit but the Raveniously Intelectually Inquiring side of me would like to settle the matter out of sheer curiousity(Hubris?).
