Our love is an act of war.

One of the things that worries me most is that we will be obliterated, that we will never have been.

I was looking for something to say about the pervasive and persuasive idea that there is room for peaceful co-existence, that there is truth in all ideologies, that we just don't understand (or choose not to understand) people who think differently from us, and if we just made the effort, why then we could all get along.

This post shows far more eloquently than I could why this is not going to be possible. Because only one side believes it, and only one side is willing (or maybe even able) to make that effort, and its reward will be an even greater push towards obliteration.

I agree with this, unfortunately. I wish people could just learn to get along and love each other and all the rest of it, but Nice Guys Finish Last.

That's absolutely lovely. I was talking about selective abortion (re: Trip Palin) and my friend pointed out that if they ever isolate a range of predominant genes for homosexuality, there will be people choosing to abort for that reason. Which reminded me of the Star Trek handwave for their being no gay people in space in some fanfic - that genetic screening had just made the gay minority vanish. And how wretchedly awful to take away any of the richness of people, to want to not have people exist because of who they might love? Fight.

There's some precedence for losing the war and disappearing forever. Cultures are like predators, and yet - if we don't fight, if we stay silent, stay hidden, they have already won. We don't really have a choice at all in this war we didn't start.

I regret to say that the analysis of how the other side thinks is absolutely correct.

Over my dead body, my sister. And they'll have to get past my crossbow first.

Not to pish Jerry Pounelle:
You can't Tolerate the Wolf tearing at one's throat.
Nor can one tolerate those who with amazing MimioPhant (pretentious Koesler referance) cool percieve us as a wolf tearing at their throats
