In the Facebook pages, Julie Bindel has announced that she plans to go after the trans community even more, because our attitude - our 'baying mob' - has convinced her that she is even more right than she could possibly previously have been. The question that arises is, what can she write between now and early December that will convince Press for Change and the Gender Trust that it was a daft idea to ask her to a debate.

I really don't see why any part of the trans community should give a platform to someone who is clearly now concerned to attack a minority for ruffling her ego, especially when the NUS have her listed as someone whose history of hate speech means that she should be denied such a platform.

I was going to say, "herself", but I'm not actually certain.

Maybe because the most out spoken homophobes are often gay, JB is a deeply closeted transperson?

She did say in "my trans mission" that if she'd seen a psychiatrist when she was younger she might have been writing as a trans man. I always thought she was betraying a fundamental misunderstanding of how transition works, but maybe I read her all wrong.

I think that says quite a bit. This could be the anger of someone who for various reasons cannot have the surgeries? I know that certain medical conditions - diabetic circulation problems, von Willebrand disease, hepatitis C and so on - can make surgery inadvisable.

At what point does "Do Not Feed the Troll" come into play?

Hmmm It might be a good idea to ask the editor of the Guardian, and the editor of any other paper she3 might write for, if they want their paper used for what would amount to a vendetta.

We should all talk later about whether to ask for a right to reply...

The Guardian has a small, occasional section for that sort of thing. I'd go for it.

It's an own goal

I think we must have rattled her because, whatever you think about the way it begins she's getting quite incoherent towards the end of that. Repeating christianist slurs against gay men being one step from bestiality, a crude drive-by on bisexuals...

She not just lost it, she's probably lost most of the Stonewall constituency that pandered to her last thursday. Good job she wants to be alone. After this rant, I almost guarantee it.
