OK, the Raychel Roo killing does indeed seem to have turned out to be some sort of hoax, the destruction of a sockpuppet in the most aggressive way possible. One of the reasons so many of us fell for it is that there are so many vile killings of trans people, and they do so often take the form of trying to obliterate us. This time, it was a lie; next time, it probably won't be.

Later People have asked for the evidence that it's a hoax and the answer is that the original source has retracted it here

Well, that's good news - of a sort. With friends like that, though, the job of enemies is only made easier. Sigh (relief/frustration, 60/40.)

Whoever perpetrated it is vile, though. What a horrible way to treat a trusting community.

It's a vile hoax to have perpetrated, but I'm still grateful to hear that it wasn't true. I'm just sorry, and angry, that it was so goddamned plausible.

I am just relieved.

I can see why one could feel glad to know that that _one_ appears to be a hoax. But for me, I can't shake that for every hoax there's uncountable abuse, assaults, murders, and being-pushed-to-suicide, that go silently, unreported, unrecorded, unspoken of.

One is lost as the thought processes of someone who would make such a hoax (if it is indeed), as I for one was shaken by it's echos of my own history.

PS: on what basis are you considering it ruled out, in consideration of the past presedence of a cis-world hiding or 'de-trans-ing' cases. (I may have missed a post-script or conclusion.)

That's a relief, but what a cruel trick.

I am not quite convinced that all the moderators on that site are telling the truth about being innocently duped along with everyone else. Most of them, doubtless, but when you read it a couple of times that first long account sent to the A.E Brain site doesn't read like someone passing on false information in good faith, it reads like clumsily composed fiction. The pacing, the clear attempt to build suspense - that's on the writer of that letter, not on some "fake aunt" supplying her with lies. I suspect that whoever was sockpuppeting Raychel Roo is still there. And I think the person has done it before.
