I'm glad to have learned belatedly from Boing-boing that the people who are protecting the world from same-sex marriage are also worried about sex with machines. So nice to know that they sit up all night worrying about these things so that we don't have to.

I think the Uncanny Valley is going to prevent this from becoming much of an issue, but it's good to know he's thinking ahead.

This reminds me that we are the opposite number from this guy, as we tried to sketch what a sexual model of "active consent" would entail with intelligent animals, robots, aliens, et cetera. I'm still amused (and actually kind of proud) that we considered dolphin sexual misconduct (as opposed to sexual misconduct with dolphins) and didn't immediately have a disgust reaction.

Yet I don't think we stay up at night worrying about the poor robots and dolphins.

We actually knew someone once who swam with dolphins and who mentioned having been nudged by its, um, organ. So we asked her what she thought about it and whether, had she co-operated, it would have been bestiality.

Bless her, she said 'not on my part. Dolphins are higher beings.'

I have never been entirely sure whether or not she was joking.

I see he's also horrified at the bizarre thought of polygamy - as if that wasn't sanctioned by the same Bible he uses to condemn gay marriage.

As for loving inanimate objects, he's well behind the times.
