ENCHANTING
Not to seduce. But look straight in her eyes
mostly relieve her boredom as you leave
she's on the door. With words you try to weave
a little spell. Maybe you will surprise
her with a feeling she's not felt before
for moments though you're old and rather fat
nice skin and piercing eyes might outweigh that
recite a poem. Saints might well deplore
this moment's conversation. There is lust
there somewhere in the mix, at least a thought
of how she'd moan. But even if you've caught
her webbed for just a second. Do not trust
your own behaviour, what remains of charm
Smile a goodbye. Don't even touch her arm.

the goth and frankincense and lies
all those traits in the mirror seen
the good of you and the obscene
race the jet trails crossing the sky
say is time to go say not why
ignore the pulse of mobile phone
charges heavy when you call as you roam
always on the door and she is never free
full of cynicism and venom to all she see
finding ways in makes no sense
a car boot-load of tears and nonsense
the jack and spare beside the king
the corpse of Elvis a shrunken thing
and all the darkness running black
down a pale young face never looking back.
