On being, as it were, the Kevin Bacon of the demi-monde

Opening my newspaper over coffee just now, I came across this...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1424773,00.html

And here's the thing - yet again, this is someone with whom I used to live. Only briefly - she was in trouble with the college authorities and ended up sleeping on my floor for a couple of weeks. And we weren't particularly close friends, just the sort of foafs which means that you help people out.

She had the particular merit of getting up the nose of the one of my then actual flatmates who became an eminent musicologist.

And now she turns up as a Labour candidate sacked for being an ex-hooker, and not being ashamed of it. As opposed to the current leadership, about whose constant selling of himself there is nothing ex, though also no shame.

I especially like her comment that it "was not truly Parisian love" because they were such quickies.

"I was a delightful young woman"?

She always did have something of an ego, as I remember, which was why I liked her so much.

Sometimes I think that it isn't astonishing that you know people like this anywhere near so much as it is that I know you. It certainly is a delight.

Totally Agree.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I bet you could have said it so it's more easily parsed! ;-)

...the Kevin Bacon of the demi-monde

Much sexier phraseology than, say, "... of the counterculture intelligentsia". Though, now I'm seeing Mr. Bacon and you in Third Empire attire, and there might be absinthe somewhere nearby.
