I just watched the Desperate Housewives finale.
That was wonderful and appalling. Bree making the bed before taking her husband to the hospital because she cannot let herself accept he is dying. Rex dying believing wrongly that she has killed him. John revealing to the world what an insane bully Carlos is. And poor mad Zach, about to kill the man who is actually his father to avenge the man who is neither his father nor dead. All sorts of things waiting for next year. Will Bree be suspected of Rex's murder or work out it was George? Will Mike live or die? When will Andrew break his mother's heart? Will Edie accept what her feelings about Susan actually are?

I am pretty certain that Lynette will be OK no matter what, but the other three housewives are in a terrible state now and I am in a turmoil I haven't known since the end of Buffy Season Two, just wondering what comes next and waiting until migod January. Or will the US get it in the autumn again? Please Goddess.

In other news, Polly Peachum just walked into my novel and has become as real to me in a few sentences as Mara, Voltaire and Tiger Brown. I hope I don't have to kill her...

My heart broke reading Rex's note. I can see Bree being tried for murder next season easily though.
She's going to need Lilah as her lawyer something awful.

There needs to be at least one episode of Prisoner: Cellblock Bree.

Well, Lynette will be okay, because Lynette gets a storyline! Hooray.

Bree: I suspect we'll get at least one "Bree in jail" moment, if only because it will provide 80 million Martha Stewart jokes ready-made, and because Andrew will despise her even more if he thinks she's his father's killer, even if George is proved to be the culprit.

Susan: I don't much like Susan, but it will be fascinating to watch her deal with Zach as Mike's son, because of her previous headbutting with Zach, and to see how Julie deals with the fact that Zach doesn't get out of her life until Mike does. Mostly, it will be more interesting for the players in the drama, rather than for Susan herself. Unless she is having sex with Edie.

Gabrielle: Gaby's the soapiest of them all, so she will continue to have the soapy hijinks. Plus, they have to figure out what to do about her baby, which may put a major damper on her slut-quota.

Edie: will continue to get the best one-liners and be slashy with Susan. Maybe we'll get a side of her slashing it up with Bree after Bree has to deal with the ultimate loss of her reputation. Please God. ;)

I liked the finale some, but I am disappointed Rex is dead, and will cry if he's not dead, because cheesy in the bad way, there.

Well, some of us are in different countries and don't get episodes until a month or two after the US! But I'm not watching Desperate Housewives myself, so it's all good.

What is this novel of yours? Have I not been paying attention? And why do you have Threepenny Opera characters appearing in it?

It's the novel I started a couple of years ago, because various friends were telling me off for writing fanfic instead of my own work. Then I got scared of its sheer scale and put it to one side, and now I've written something like 32k of it, so it looks like I am committed.

I am writing a sequence in which my immortal character is in London in 1726 hunting manticores. And somehow Threepenny Opera characters wandered in.

*nods* Good luck with the rest!

Awesome. I was involved in a production last year. I had a fondness for Tiger Brown.

>I hope I don't have to kill her...

If you think you might have to, maybe it would be a good idea to write it anyway, before you get any more involved with her. Then you've got it in reserve...

But I know what you mean. I've been writing for forty years and I think I've only ever killed a character (permanently) twice.

Wow I so didn't catch onto the Edie/Susan thing, although I have missed a few episodes here and there.

I thought there was going to be a gun shot after Mike walked into the house, so now I'm wondering even more so about that.

Thanks for putting under a cut, cause yep I'm a strange person who didn't watch it until this morning.

Are the episodes downloadable? Seems a lot of other US series are - I am tempted.

I may be in deep trouble - the female protagonist in my new novel is called Bree, but damn it, I haven't seen "Desperate Housewives" and Bree was one specific person's nickname for me back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and I'm sticking with it.

In other news, Polly Peachum just walked into my novel and has become as real to me in a few sentences as Mara, Voltaire and Tiger Brown. I hope I don't have to kill her...

This statement is a thing of beauty, and a joy forever.
