Those people who have been following the whole re-emergence of radical queer trans politics here need to look at the new post on [livejournal.com profile] auntysarah here for a description of the current state of play in respect of the meeting a few of us had yesterday to discuss possible ways forward. This was not so much a meeting to set anything up, or even a meeting to discuss such a meeting, as a meeting to decide that at some point down the track, a meeting to discuss meetings about meetings should happen.

No cabal, as I said a while back in a post that someone on the Guardian Comment is Free page took as evidence that there was a cabal; just some friends who meet anyway and know that Something Needs to Be Done.

This post has been in the interests of total transparency.

Meanwhile, I am gettng somewhat vexed with Pride's failure to commit themselves to any clear policy about trans access at next year's Pride - there has been a flurry of letters today of which more, if necessary, in due course.

Doesn't matter what we do

given the highly charged nature of relationships between feminists, various gay/queer organisations and the disparate trans community, I imagine that any activity or even absence of activity will be seen by somebody as threatening.

We're flying blind too. We simply aren't in a position to know what's happening as others see their vested interest as best maintained by a silence that has led us to suspect their motives. We no longer trust certain organisations who are supposed to be on our side and they aren't communicating with us cos they don't seem to trust us either (despite our needs being their concern - but that's career politics).

somewhere Bindel is laughing at the consternation she has wrought.

Like it's hard for Pride to say "Use the appropriate toilet."

Or take responsibility for putting women into harm's way by insisting that they use the men's loos.

I am afraid that there is some fear involved that backing down in the face of uppity trans folk might rob the people involved of some important body part.

We are weird liminal beings and we live to feed off cis-folk's bits.

Well, yeah. Backing down would be tantamount to admitting that they're not our betters, or something.

is anyone wanting to go to the Gender Trust AGM in Brighton on the 30th? We might have the opportunity to ask a couple of interesting questions.
I'm intending to at least mention this to attendees at a certain local meet tomorrow

To be honest, I'm inclined to ignore them, especially after they tried to get me to reconsider my decision to quit the helpline under false pretences.

So by what right does this new cabal hijack the anger at Bindel and her ilk, and at PFC's and GT's total loss of concern for what are supposed to be their reasons for existence, their power-base, as exemplified by their response on Bindel and Stonewall, as "radical queer trans"?

Uh, of course, how could it possibly be about anything but out, queer, proud, trans people? Silly me.

Ignore the fact that it is SRS, transsexual children, "stealth" women, and our partners, whether straight or lesbian, Bindel and her ilk are most against. What is "radical queer" about those?

Brilliant divisive move there.
