And another

SUMMER 1975

It was George Melly's fault strutting the bar
His suit mustard and scarlet check. How far
'Frankie and Johnny' started us off wrong
I cannot tell. Somehow his bloody song

was sound-track to our drinking. Was our fate
to hurt each other, even on that date
where later on she pulled me to her bed
with mockery and coaxing? I had said

it was a bad idea; 'compared to what?'
she said, which rather put me on the spot.
'Try it at least - you've only slept with men.'
A line that would come back to haunt her when

I'd say it back. She loved me, but would say
not quite enough to turn her fucking gay.

This one, this one I quite like. The recursively allusive poetics of interpersonal relationships. Ah, language.

Jesus, woman - still bringing the awesome!

(Have you considered tagging the sonnets, so that one can readily have a page on which they're archived together?)

This is awesome. Sad but funny, quirky, camp, intelligent.

Rather inspirational.

I love this one.
